About

Fragrant Mediterranean shrub with silvery foliage and purple flower spikes. Beloved by bees, and the flowers dry beautifully for sachets and culinary use.

Growing

Demands sharp drainage and lean soil — wet feet and rich soil are what kill it. Plant in a gritty raised bed or amend with sand. Prune lightly after flowering to keep it compact and prevent woodiness.

Harvest

Cut flower stems just as the lowest buds open, in the morning after dew dries. Bundle and hang upside down in a dark, airy spot to dry. Leave a third of the green growth when pruning.
